Cooler Temps Calls for HVAC Inspection
Temperatures are cooling, marking it the perfect time to get your furnace or heat pump ready for winter. Making sure all equipment runs efficiently is pivotal for avoiding costly future repairs and potential hazards.
At the start of cooler weather, keep up with maintenance, by doing your own vacuuming and cleaning around the heating unit itself. Hire a licensed contractor and get your heating system inspected and serviced prior to use. A high functioning unit will eliminate many problems and contribute to the overall health and safety of those around you.
HVAC Marketing Tactics
The Arizona Republic has recently published some articles highlighting the Attorney General’s attempt to shut down air conditioning & heating companies that have been using questionable sales tactics. There are some misleading and deceptive sales techniques used to try and trick consumers into buying services and products utilizing various types of print and direct mail advertisements.
A few of these misleading and deceptive sales practices are:
1. False Safety Notices - Used to scare consumers into buying unnecessary systems and repairs.
Advice – You should never purchase something that a company is trying to scare you into buying.
Using the Registrar of Contractors (ROC) as a Resource
The mission of the Registrar of Contractors (ROC) is to promote quality construction by Arizona contractors though a licensing and regulatory system designed to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public.
The ROC licenses and regulates residential and commercial contractors. ROC staff investigate and work to resolve complaints against licensed and unlicensed contractors.
When selecting a contractor, you should make it a habit to visit the ROC website at www.azroc.gov to check out the contractor. This website is an excellent resource to find out the following information:
Support our U.S. Troops!
Now that the 10th anniversary of September 11th has come and gone, I believe it’s important for us to remember the phrase that was made popular back then… “We Will Never Forget!”. We need to continue to appreciate the servicemen and women who work so hard on behalf of our country.
This is a belief that hits close to home for me. As a young man, I served as a Meritorious Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps during Desert Storm and Operation Restore Hope in Somalia. I know the hard work, dedication and sacrifice it takes to proudly serve in the military.
Trying to Keep Cool on ABC 15 News
Kris Adams, a technician at Precision Air & Heating, was featured on ABC 15 News on August 25, 2011 while working on an air conditioning unit.
The story was highlighting the importance of keeping cool during the hot summer months and reported that a 70 year old woman who needed her air conditioning system repaired had refused offers by neighbors and the A/C company to stay somewhere cool until the repair was completed. Tragically, she died that night from the extreme heat in her home which was found to be at 107 degrees when paramedics arrived.
How to select a Reputable Air Conditioning Company
When your air conditioner breaks down in the middle of an Arizona summer, it’s important to keep a cool head when selecting your HVAC service company. As seen on Dateline NBC and Fox 10 News, there are companies that will take advantage of consumers who know little or nothing about their air conditioning systems. As a result, every consumer should follow some guidelines when choosing a company to call for service, tune-ups and new system purchases.
Get a Referral – Ask neighbors and friends for a referral to a company they’ve had a good experience with in the past.
Increase Insulation – Save Money on Cooling Costs!
Extreme summer temperatures in Arizona means higher electric bills during those months. One very important step a homeowner can take to save substantially on their utility bill is to make sure they have enough attic insulation to keep the hot air out and the cold air in!
How do you determine if you need attic insulation?
• Your air conditioner works extra hard to cool your home.
• Your home heats up quickly after the A/C cycles off.
• You can’t maintain a comfortable home during hot summers or cold winters.
Effects of a Dust Storm on your A/C
Effects of a Dust Storm on your Air Conditioning system.
Your air conditioning system is a sealed system so you don’t need to worry about dust getting into your home through your air conditioner. If you are experiencing dust in your home after a dust storm then it’s from having your doors and windows improperly sealed. If this is the case, then it’s a good idea to clean and/or replace your air filters a few days after the storm.
